The flash was developed to provide artificial lighting for photography. Both professional, amateur and beginning photographers often use some form of artificial lighting when taking pictures. The flash is most useful in providing light for dark scenes but is also useful for producing certain kinds of moods in photography.
A flash unit may be built into a camera. However, there are flash units that can be attached to the camera for use. Other forms of flash units may include studio strobes and other kinds of lighting equipment that may be powered by battery packs or plugged directly into wall units. With recent developments in photography, wireless synchronization between flash units and various camera makes is now possible giving another option to that of direct cable synchronization.
